Aromatherapy History

The aromatherapy is the combination of the two words which have the meaning as 'Aroma' means 'fragrance' and 'Therapy' means 'treatment'. This aromaterapy is used about from the 6000 years. This is natural therapy which give the effect of the whole person mind, body, and spirit. Aromatherapy was used by the Egypt, China, and India. The South America investigate about more medicinal plants and aromatic oils.

The current epoch of aromatherapy is first used in 1930 at the time of French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefosse inventd the expression of aromatherapy for the beneficial use of essential oils. The French army surgeon Dr. Jean Valnet used essential oils as antiseptics. The Rene Maurice Gattefosse published a book on the anti-microbial effects of the oils in 1937. The aromatherapy is a remedial sculpture in which roots lying in ancient times.

  • The Egyptians used the method of infusion to extract the oils from aromatic plants which were used for medicinal and cosmetic purposes.
  • Hypocrites - They are called the aromatherapy as the priest of medicine. They are used this for the daily aromatic bath and scented massage for healthy health.
  • The Chinese used aromatic herbs and burned aromatic woods and incense to show respect to God.
  • Indian are called the aromatherapy as the ayurvedic which is used for the massage.
  • Romans - They are used for the scented baths followed by massage with aromatic oils.
  • Greeks are used the aromatherapy as the aromatic oil for the use of medicinal and cosmetic pusposes.

Ancient History of Aromatherapy and Essential Oils

The aromatherapy oils are widely used in the ancient Egyptians, Romans and Greeks. The essential oils contains more amount of sesquiterpenes, VOC substances and monoterpenes. The essential oils are aromatic essences. They are more effective and intensed extracts of various parts of flowers, roots, woods, spices, fruits, and leaves.
